How to make a watercolour and ruffle cake tutorial
Jessica Atkins of Rosy Cakes shows how to make a sweet lavender watercolor cake with ruffles
Begin with a fondant covered cake that has been allowed to fully dry and set.
You will need
- Fondant covered cake that has has completely dried
- Pettinice White
- Pettinice Purple
- Edible paints
- Vodka or cake decorating spirit
- sugar glue or water
- Toothpick
- Knife
Mix high proof% alcohol or cake decorators spirit with your favorite powder colour.
The high alcohol content allows the paint to dry quickly.
Continue painting your cake.
Be playful with painting. If you are going for a this look, keep your strokes horizontal.
Wipe any drips off your cake board
Create your ombre shades with your fondant. For this design, you don't need a lot!
Roll out your lightest shade.
Trim your top edge to be a little more rounded.
On the trimmed edge, Roll back on forth using toothpick tip to create the ruffle.
This is what finished ruffle edge will look like.
Using water, attach ruffle side up on the side of your cake.
Use your toothpick to give the ruffles movement.
The front of your cake.
Repeat with the second ombre shade.
Toothpick to ruffle your edge
Water to glue it on top of the first ruffle.
Use your toothpick to give further movement to your ruffles.
Repeat process for third shade.
Front view.
Repeat process for final shade.
