Jo Orr runs Rotorua-based Ciccio Cakes and is an encyclopedia of knowledge for all things cake. If you haven’t had the chance to try one of her cake slices from the Ciccio’s cake cabinet, be sure to put it at the top of your foodie to-do list.
Cakes are my passion; I love turning butter, flour and sugar into something special and nothing beats the reaction of the intended recipient. My preferred medium is Bakels fondant. I use Bakels because it’s better.
Jo is a trained Pastry Chef and been working as a Chef for the past 20 years. She says, “I love creating new flavours and recipes to tantalise people’s taste buds, as I believe a cake should taste as good as they look.” You can find Jo often experimenting in the kitchen with cake recipes, as well as creating modelling chocolate, gumpaste, wafer paper, or trying new mediums. She is best known for her own Sugarlace recipe, which works a treat and can be purchased through Operation Sugar. Her favourite thing is trying out methods to create something new and a little different.
